I am a retired mathematics professor and a self-taught artist. In 1974 I founded Little River Press, which specializes in publishing volumes of poetry, graphic art and conceptual art. Little River Press has published over fifty volumes of poetry, postcard art series, graphic artworks and sponsored conceptual art projects. Many of the graphic works have appeared in exhibits at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Springfield Art League, the Arno Maris Gallery, the Zone Art Center, the Trumbull Art Gallery, the Rochester Institute of Technology and in national and international mail-art exhibitions. Two conceptual art projects included entries from Carl Andre, Sol Lewitt and Allen Ginsberg. Several books and L.R.P. projects are in private and university collections.

Ron SculptureIn the 1980’s I constructed numerous large, outdoor sculptures from saplings and vines. I began adding weathered books to my sculptures. In 1990 eight of these book sculptures were shown at the Stark Gallery in Richmond, VA. A yearlong conceptual book project was undertaken in 1994 and documented with weekly photographs, which were published in book form.

In 1996 I began working on a series of mixed media sculptures constructed from wood found in woodlands, ponds and rivers in western Massachusetts. The works were painted with acrylic paint and often had found or handmade objects affixed to them. Samples of these works are seen on this website. These works have appeared in two person shows at the Blizard Gallery in Springfield, MA, the Arno Maris Gallery and Jasper Rand Art Museum in Westfield, MA, the Kraus Gallery in Providence, RI, the University Gallery at UMass Lowell, and the Grubbs Gallery at The Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA. My works have appeared in group shows at the Silvermine Guild, the Springfield Art League, the Fitchburg Art Museum, the Lascano Gallery in Great Barrington, MA and the Insiders/Outsiders Art Gallery in Cornwall Bridge, CT. Since 2005 my work has been shown at Elan Fine Arts in Rockland and Rockport, ME. My work is currently being shown at Four Walls Gallery in Portland, ME.

I share a studio in Westfield, MA with my wife, Judith.
